UPDATE! Debian 9 supports Compiz super fancy 3D Accelerated Desktop!? UNTESTED! (it will probably only work with limit amounts of GPU, like 1 out of 3 laptops will support it, this was true for compiz under Knoppix 7.2)

https://youtu.be/Z34aQ_xH7ac

how to install:

It is absolutely #AWESOME http://www.compiz.org/ and making linux not only run smooth but gives it even more 3d coolness than a Mac or Windows Box ever had X-D

(src)

… if supported by your grafix card.

unfortunately it does not seem to be under heavy development. March 30th, 2011: Compiz 0.8.8 (stable) released! Source tarballs can be found here.

last changes 2016… or maybe there is? https://github.com/bhull2010/compizfusion-core-packages

… and might be hard to setup/incompatible with latest Debian/Ubuntu/CentOS7. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Compiz

centos7: yum search compiz

Warning: No matches found for: compiz

Distro with Compiz pre installed

“The MATE Compiz spin bundles MATE Desktop with Compiz Fusion. MATE Desktop is a lightweight, powerful desktop designed with productivity and performance in mind. The default windows manager is Marco which is usable for all machines and VMs. Compiz Fusion is a beautiful 3D windowing manager with Emerald and GTK+ theming.

If you want a powerful, lightweight Fedora desktop with 3D eyecandy you should definitely try the MATE-Compiz spin.” check it out: https://spins.fedoraproject.org/mate-compiz/

Installing Compiz 3D Desktop on Debian 6 “squeeze”

unfortunately it seems like there is no easy way getting it to work with newer versions of Debian… but if you wanna stick with “Wheezy” go ahead 😀
